Cake Smash Photoshoot in West Sussex
Celebrate your baby’s first birthday with a joyful, mess-filled photo session designed to capture this once-in-a-lifetime milestone.
My cake smash photoshoots take place in my warm, child-friendly studio near East Grinstead and include everything you need for a relaxed and memorable experience. From clean portraits to the cake smash itself and a bubbly tub splash at the end, I guide you through the entire session so you can simply enjoy watching your little one explore, play, and celebrate.
These sessions are designed for babies turning one, but can be adapted for slightly older children who would enjoy the experience.
What Happens During a Cake Smash Session?
A typical session includes three stages, each designed to capture different expressions and moments.
1. Clean Portraits
We begin with simple portraits before the cake comes out. This allows me to capture your baby’s personality without any mess and gives you timeless images you will treasure for years.
2. Cake Smash
Next comes the fun part. Your baby can explore, taste, squish, and destroy the cake in their own way. Some babies dive straight in, others take a little encouragement, and both reactions are completely normal and equally adorable.
3. Tub Splash
Finally, your baby gets to enjoy a warm bath in a little tub. This stage is not only practical but also produces some of the happiest photos of the entire session.
Designed to Be Easy for Parents
You do not need to worry about how your baby will behave or whether they will cooperate. I have photographed hundreds of babies and know how to adapt the session to suit each child.
Parents often worry about:
• What if my baby cries?
• What if they do not like the cake?
• Will it be stressful?
In reality, most sessions are relaxed, playful, and far less chaotic than expected. There is plenty of time, no pressure, and breaks whenever needed.
Do I Need to Bring Anything?
I will guide you before your session so you know exactly what to bring.
Typically, you will need:
• A cake suitable for smashing
• An outfit for portraits
• A towel and spare clothes
• Any sentimental items you would like included
Many families choose a simple supermarket cake, which often works beautifully for smashing and photographing.
When Is the Best Time to Book?
Cake smash sessions are usually scheduled when your baby is around 10 to 11 months old, so your images are ready for their first birthday. Booking early ensures availability and gives time to plan outfits and cake choices without stress.
Studio Location
My studio is based near East Grinstead in West Sussex, easily accessible from surrounding areas including Crawley, Horsham, Haywards Heath, and Redhill. Free parking is available, and everything takes place in one comfortable indoor space.
Why Families Choose a Studio Cake Smash
A professional studio session offers several advantages over attempting a cake smash at home:
• No preparation or clean-up for you
• Lighting designed to flatter babies and skin tones
• Safe, controlled environment
• A calm, unhurried experience
• Professional editing and presentation
Most importantly, you get to be present and enjoy the moment instead of managing the chaos.
Ready to Celebrate Your Baby’s First Birthday?
A cake smash photoshoot is a joyful way to mark the end of the baby year and capture your child’s emerging personality. If you would love natural, happy images without the stress of organising everything yourself, I would be delighted to welcome you to the studio.
