Thanks for trusting me to capture your maternity memories at your upcoming pregnancy photo shoot!

Pregnancy is such a unique and fleeting chapter, and your maternity session is all about celebrating you—the journey, the anticipation, and the beauty of this moment in time. Whether you’re feeling excited, nervous, or just a bit unsure of what to expect, this guide is here to help you feel prepared, relaxed, and ready to enjoy your session. There’s nothing you need to memorise—just take a moment to browse, and know that I’ll guide you every step of the way.

You can scroll down for all the information that you need and you’ll get reminders via email two weeks and one day before your session. Or you can head on back to the client hub home page to have a browse through my studio collections or other shoot types if you’d like to.

Just Booked…

Depending on how far ahead you’ve booked your maternity photo shoot, you’ll probably already be thinking about the kind of shots you want to create.   However, you don’t need to do anything right away — your session is safely in the diary, and I’ll be in touch with everything you need to know closer to the time. But if you’re the kind of person who likes to feel ahead of the game, here’s a quick overview of what’s to come:

  • Around two weeks before your session, I’ll send you a short “what to expect” email with helpful info and reminders.

  • The day before your shoot, you’ll get an options form where you can share any preferences or personal touches you’d like to include along with any backdrops or dresses from my collection.

  • And of course, you can browse the studio collections at any time if you’d like to get inspired or see what’s available.

Of  course I have a range of studio maternity dresses that you’re welcome to borrow for your session (I recommend three outfit changes for a full, but not too hectic photo shoot), but if you’re planning on ordering your own from companies like Shein or Temu, they do have some lovely options but they will quite often take a few weeks to get to you so you might want to start with that.

All of that being said, there’s no pressure to plan every detail — your session is designed to feel relaxed and natural. However, if you want to gently start to gather ideas and you’re on Pinterest, I’m there for it.  Whichever way you want to take it – plan with a mood board, or go with the flow, just know I’m here to guide you every step of the way.

Two Weeks Before…

As your session hoves into view on your calendar, you might be starting to wonder what to expect. Don’t worry — I’ll guide you through everything on the day, but here’s a bit of info to help you feel prepared and relaxed in advance.

Posing & Preparation

You don’t need to rehearse anything or worry about experience. Whether you’re a seasoned model or you’ve never set foot in a studio before, I’ll take you through ever step to create flattering, natural images.   The studio is booked for an hour, but we won’t necessarily need all of that time – we’ll just be taking things at a relaxed and comfortable pace.

Your hands will be on show, so it’s worth checking that your nails look how you’d like them to.  There’s not really any need to worry about footwear too much – most images won’t show your feet – so I’d always say to prioritise comfort over style (unless you’re treating yourself to a pedicure — in which case, I fully support that!).  Now’s a good time to make those appointments along with a hair salon visit, if those things are important to you so you get to the studio feeling your absolute best.

If you’re including a partner or children in the photo shoot, you might also want to take a few minutes to make sure they have what you’d like to wear for the session so they will complement your looks (you’re the star of course!).  If you’re coming alone with a young child, it’s worth arranging to bring an extra pair of hands so you’re free to focus when it’s time for you to pose on your own without worrying what they’re getting up to.

Things to Bring Along

There’s no need to bring along anything other than yourselves and any outfits or accessories you’d like to use. That said, many clients choose to bring small props with sentimental meaning — like scan photos, personalised baby items, or baby name signs.  Now’s a great time to start popping these in one place so they’re ready to grab and bring with you on the day.

Got Questions?  Just get in touch and I’m happy to help!

The Day Before…

This is when you’ll receive the options form for your session via email and you can let me know anything you’ve already got planned, make your selections of backdrops, dresses and any maternity props that you’d like to include.   You’ll also be able to send me over any screenshots or Pinterest links if you want to create something specific if that’s your vibe.  Don’t feel like you have to though – I’m more than happy to take you through everything on the day and we can just create beautiful images in a more spontaneous way.

You might want to just double check that you’ve got everything you need in one spot including clothes and accessories for yourself, along with any outfits for partners or children so you’re not rushing on the day. I want you to be able to turn up to your session serene and not hassled because of a last minute shirt hunt!

The day before your shoot is a great time to treat yourself to a good, soothing coat of moisturiser (perhaps after a gentle exfoliation?) to make sure your skin is glowing but the absolute  most important thing is to get a good night’s rest (easier said than done when you’re growing a tiny human, I know!) and come along feeling relaxed, knowing that I’ve got everything in hand.

On the Day…

It totally depends on what you’ve got planned for your shoot but a few hours before, it is definitely worth considering what you’re going to be wearing when you arrive as some clothes will leave marks on your skin which could be noticeable if you’re daring to bare.  Change into something loose and comfy – I’d always advise this any way (and if you’ve ever met me, you would know this!)

Getting to the Studio

If it’s your first time coming to the studio, then definitely take a look at the directions before you come. It’s not easy to find if you just head to Turners Hill Road and the postcode will take you to a neighbouring farm (postcodes are very wide ranging here). The best thing to do is go to Google Maps and put in Sarah Fisher Photography but if you don’t use that, then like I say, just take a peek at the directions.  When you arrive, you’ll be parking on a driveway – there’s an A-Frame sign to show you the best place to put your car. You don’t need to go too close to the hedge though – leave yourself plenty of room to get out!

Starting your Session

When you arrive, I’ll come down to meet you on the driveway and we’ll take you and any things you’ve bought with you straight up to the studio to get you settled in.  For the first few minutes, we’ll just take some time to get acquainted, talk over any ideas that you have and formulate a rough plan for the session.  I’ll be checking in on your comfort levels in terms of pace and temperature throughout the session but of course, we’ll be talking all the time, so if you need something just let me know.    There’s toilet facilities and a large changing room at the studio so you can make a base in there to get yourself ready for your photos.

As part of our chat, we’ll talk about how much you’d like to bare during your session and I think it’s important for you to know up front that there’s never any pressure for me in that area.  Some people like to stay fully covered and some people want to go as far as partially or implied nude.  I’m fine with wherever you are on that scale so any conversation we have is simply about you letting me know where that is for you.  It’s not a pressure or an expectation and it’s also not a bar from doing exactly what you want – I want you to feel completely comfortable and confident throughout your session.

Packing Checklist

You might like to bring along some of the following to make sure your session goes without a hitch and you can get exactly the images you want.

  • Outfits (for you and anyone else you’re including)
  • Any jewellery or accessories
  • Shoes if they’re important to you
  • Underwear changes if you’re going from dark to light
  • Water
  • Scan Photos or other props
  • Lip balm and moisturiser
  • Hairbrush and / or accessories

Two Weeks After…

Your gallery will normally be ready for you to view about two weeks after your session and so this is a great time to keep an eye on your email (or indeed your Spam folder!) to see I’ve sent you through the info.  When it turns up, it’s as simple as clicking on the link, popping in your password and you’ll be heading straight to your gallery. Of course, this information will only be coming to you at the email address that you booked with but you’re free to share it with friends and family if you’d like to.

Maternity sessions include your choice of your favourite three images from your gallery made available to you as print quality, digital downloads and the instructions on how to let me know your selections will be in the email with your image link and password but we can talk about it here as well – you simply add the images you’d like to your Favourites list (the website will just ask you to enter your email address to create it) and then when you’ve finalised your choice, click on the paper plane image and choose to ‘Share with Photographer’.  That sends them through to me and I will then get them ready for you to download.   When they’re online for you, you’ll get another email that looks just like your Gallery link except that this will allow you to download the images direct to your PC or device.

If you’d like to order more images from your session, all you need to do is click on the shopping bag in the corner of the image (or at the top right of the screen if you’re looking in thumbnail view) and you’ll bring up all the prices and packages so you can add whatever you’d like to your cart.  It should all feel pretty intuitive if you’re anything like me and shop online all the time but if you have any questions at all, I’m always here so you can just give me a shout.

If you ever need to access your gallery directly, you can head to my gallery homepage at and enter your personal password.
