A partially nude maternity shoot is something a lot of people are curious about but aren’t quite sure how to approach. If that’s you, this should help.
Telling me what you want
Before your session, I’ll always have a chat with you about what you’re comfortable with and what you’re hoping for. There’s quite a range within “partially nude,” from bare bump shots with everything else covered, to more artistic silhouettes, to something more open. None of it is assumed. We work out what feels right for you before we even get started.
If you’ve seen something you like, whether that’s on my website or something you’ve saved on Pinterest, share it and we’ll use that as a starting point. If you haven’t got a clear picture yet, that’s fine too. A lot of people don’t, and we work it out together on the day.
What to wear
For the parts of your session where you’re not fully bare, flowing fabrics and open robes tend to work beautifully. I have studio dresses you’re welcome to use, or you can bring your own. A favourite pair of maternity jeans left undone, or a simple unbuttoned shirt, can also make for really lovely, personal images.
Preparing your skin
This is worth thinking about in the few days before your session. Keep your skin moisturised and drink plenty of water. If you’re planning to remove any body hair, do that at least a day before to avoid any redness on the day. And wear loose clothing on the morning of your session so you don’t arrive with strap marks or waistband indentations on your skin.
If you have stretch marks, scars, or anything else you’re self-conscious about, just let me know. I can work with lighting and posing to minimise anything you’d rather not see, and retouching is always an option if you’d prefer it.
On the day
The studio is private and it’ll just be the two of us, or your partner if you’d like them there. Some clients prefer to keep this kind of session just for themselves, others find it easier with someone they trust alongside them. Either works.
I’ll guide you through everything and we’ll move at your pace. If you want to pause, adjust, or change your mind about anything, just say so. Nothing is ever rushed.
