This is one of the questions I get asked most often, and it’s worth answering properly.

A pregnant lady is photographed in a black dress that opens to reveal her bump against a black background at a professional pregnancy photo shoot

The short version: stretchmarks will only appear in your photos if you want them to. Through posing, lighting, and clothing choices, I can work with you to minimise their visibility if that’s what you’d prefer. If you’d like to reduce them further in editing, that’s also available. And if you’d like to embrace them completely, we can do that too. It’s entirely your call and we’ll talk it through before we start.

Most women have some concerns about how their body will look in maternity photos, and that’s completely understandable. My job is to make sure you feel at ease in the studio and come away with photos you’re genuinely pleased with. Before your session I’ll ask what you’d like to highlight and what you’d rather play down, and I’ll work around that throughout.

What I’d say to anyone who’s hesitating about maternity photos because of stretchmarks is this: in 20 years of working with women at all different stages of pregnancy, I’ve never had anyone leave disappointed. The right posing and lighting make an enormous difference, and there are very few things we can’t work around if we approach it thoughtfully.

Maternity Photography in East Grinstead

My maternity sessions are very flexible affairs with my studio booked for an hour so we have plenty of time to create a really varied image gallery. You’re invited to select up to three backdrops and include up to three outfit changes so you can mix and match styles to create the perfect set of pregnancy memories.

I recommend booking your session between 28-36 weeks so you’re still comfortable and you’re also welcome to borrow any of my gorgeous maternity photo shoot dresses while you’re in the studio.  You select your pictures and order any more that you would like directly from your online gallery, there’s no sales or viewing session to attend.
