Teething can be uncomfortable, confusing, and exhausting for babies. Because symptoms often appear long before a tooth emerges, it may feel like the discomfort goes on for weeks.
While there is no instant fix, several gentle approaches can make this stage much easier to manage.

Chilled Teething Toys
Cool temperatures help numb sore gums and reduce inflammation. Store teethers in the fridge so they are soothing without becoming too hard or cold. Avoid freezing solid objects, as these can be too harsh on sensitive gums.
Cold Washcloth to Chew
A clean damp cloth placed in the fridge can become a simple but effective teething aid. Babies can safely chew on the fabric while the cool temperature soothes their gums. Always supervise to ensure safety.

Extra Comfort and Reassurance
Teething often makes babies clingier and more sensitive. Holding, rocking, or simply staying close can help them feel secure when they are uncomfortable. Emotional comfort is just as important as physical relief.
Pain Relief When Necessary
If your baby seems very distressed, speak to your GP or pharmacist about suitable pain relief options for their age. Used appropriately, medication can help during particularly difficult periods.
Teething Comes in Waves
Symptoms often intensify just before a tooth breaks through, then ease temporarily before the next one begins moving. This stop-start pattern is completely normal.
Trust Your Instincts
You know your baby best. If something feels different or unusually severe, it is always reasonable to seek medical advice for reassurance.
