My studio is designed to offer as many options as possible in terms of props and backdrops. Everyone is different and I try to appeal to as many tastes as possible so I can create images that you will love.
Some folk love a prop set up and a theme and some people really like to keep it simple and both of those are fine with me. I don’t have an opinion on anyone’s personal taste, I see my role as understanding what you want to create and working to make it happen for you.
Of course with newborns, there are no guarantees that we’ll be able to do everything that you want as obviously they’re going to work at their own pace and comfort level. My sessions are always baby led – they’re the boss. How a session is styled is derived from the options that you choose on your pre-session options form and then on the chat we have when you arrive. I tend to then just get on and work through ideas according to my experience of the best way to work through a session with a newborn – the idea is always to get as much as possible whilst disturbing them as infrequently as I need to. So I tend to run through all the options available to me with one pose and then move on to the next and exhaust the possibilities there and so on…
I also tend to keep it simple at the start of the session while I’m getting used to working with your baby – in the spirit of let’s nail the basics before we get fancy with it. The image above is a great example of a ‘keep it simple’ shot – a surprising amount can be achieved changing blankets and making small alterations to pose and it’s just great luck if we get a little smile into the bargain!
That doesn’t mean that it’s not a collaborative effort though – you’ll be there the whole time and you’re always welcome to talk to me about ideas that occur to you while we’re working, things that you’d love to add or things that you’re not so keen on. That way we will create a gallery of images that is perfect for you.
Newborn Photography
A newborn photo shoot is best when your baby is between 5 and 10 days old as this is when they are at their maximum sleepiness and poseability to capture those dreamy shots. For this reason, I definitely recommend that you book when you are pregnant as this is one less thing to worry about scheduling when you’ve just got home from the hospital. We make an appointment for your due date plus 7 days and then adjust it as needed.
My newborn shoots include your three favourite digital images which you select from your online gallery a few weeks after your photo shoot – I don’t make you attend a sales or viewing session. Sessions take place in my warm and cosy studio in Crawley Down and cost £95.
