Deciding to book a maternity photoshoot is a wonderful way to celebrate your pregnancy journey but it can sometimes come with a degree of nerves if you’re not sure what to expect from your session. So here, we’re going to walk through a pregnancy shoot step by step so you know what’s coming! Of course, you can just get in touch if you have any other questions and I’m always happy to help.
Before your Session
When you’ve booked your session, you’ll get a confirmation email that gives you a few bits of information that I think you might find useful while you’re looking forward to getting in the studio. Then the day before your session, you’ll receive an options form that will let you give me all the info I need to set up for your session, including any of maternity dresses or props you’d like to use and also the backdrops you’d like to include. As well as this, if you’ve been curating a Pinterest board or just collecting up some images that reflect the style of photography you like, then you can also link / send these over to me too. It’s not essential but it can be handy for me to see visually exactly what you’ve got in mind and make sure we’re on the same page.
Arrival at the Studio
Upon arrival, I’ll greet you and we’ll walk up the short path to the studio. It’s tucked away in my garden and we’ll be the only ones there so we’ll have complete privacy. We’ll take some time to say hi and I’ll take a look at any outfits, props or accessories that you’ve brought along with you so I can work them into the the plan for the shoot.
We’ll also have a little chat about what you’d like to do, whether you want to make any underwear or implied nude images (there’s no pressure but of course if you want to, I’m here for it). I never see my role as creating images that I love (although I do!) but the goal is to create exactly the gallery of images that you’d like to look back on to remember your pregnancy journey.
The Photoshoot Experience
Then it’s time to get on with the fun part – the photo shoot itself! You’ll pop in to the changing room to get into your first outfit and we’ll get going. My studio features two distinct areas: a bright, airy white side for light-filled images, and a ‘dark side’ with focused lighting and a black backdrop, perfect for highlighting your silhouette. There are some other coloured backdrops that you might have selected as well (they’ll go up in the white side) as will the bed set if you’ve picked to have photos with that. We’ll typically start on the white side with your first chosen outfit, and I’ll provide you will all the guidance you need to make sure you’re looking fantastic – you never need to worry if you haven’t been in a studio before. And we’ll just keep going until we’ve achieved all our goals! The main thing to know is that, thoughout the session, your comfort is paramount; I’ll adjust the pace, poses, the temperature and anything else to make sure you’re having an amazing time. Then it’s time for you to head home and look forward to seeing your photos.
Post-Session and Image Selection
After the photoshoot, I’ll professionally edit the images to enhance their quality – it’s usually about two weeks before they’re ready for you to see. As soon as they are, you’ll receive a link to your private online gallery where you can view and select your favourite photos. There’s three images included in your session fee so, to let me know which you’d like, you simply add them to your Favourites list and send that list on over to me. My gallery software is very user friendly so if you want to order any more of your images, you simply add them to your basket and check out as you would online anywhere else. Most folk choose to go for digital images so you have more flexibility in how and where you get them printed and, if you’ve gone for this option, then I’ll get them online for you to download direct to your device.
