I know it can be tempting to ask a friend with a good camera to take your newborn photos. And while they might do a lovely job, newborn photography is one of the most demanding types of photography there is – a professional newborn photographer knows it’s about so much more than the camera.
These are some of the reasons families choose me to capture those very first days.
Experience With Babies
I’ve worked with hundreds of newborns, and every single one has taught me something new. Experience makes a huge difference – I can read a baby’s cues, know when to try soothing, and when to move them gently into another pose. It doesn’t mean every baby instantly drifts off to sleep (how I wish!) but it does mean I can work with them patiently, adapting until they’re comfortable. My studio is set up to keep babies relaxed and parents at ease, so we can capture those dreamy, peaceful moments.
Safety First
Your baby’s safety is always my top priority. Every pose is carefully created with support, and where something wouldn’t be safe in real life, I create the look digitally using composite techniques. Babies are never balanced or placed at risk for the sake of a photo. My training and experience mean you can feel confident that your baby is always safe in my care.
Props & Styling
I’ve curated a collection of props and accessories that are both safe and beautiful to photograph. From baskets to blankets, each item is chosen with care. (Yes, I’ve spent more time than I should probably admit wandering IKEA and wondering “could a baby go in that?”). Having the right items makes a huge difference – images that look natural and effortless are usually anything but.
Professional Equipment & Lighting
Yes, I have a good camera — but that’s just the start. I also have professional lighting, studio equipment, and twenty years of experience in photography. It’s this combination that allows me to create soft, flattering light for your baby on their own, with siblings, or in a family portrait. Newborn photography didn’t even exist when I started out, but everything I’ve learned along the way feeds into the images I create today.
Why It Matters
Newborn photos capture a window of time that’s impossibly short – just the first couple of weeks when your baby is tiny, sleepy, and still brand new to the world. Professional newborn photography gives you the best chance of preserving these moments beautifully, safely, and with as little stress as possible.
My newborn sessions are £95, which includes the session itself and three digital images of your choice. It’s a small investment for memories you’ll treasure for a lifetime.
Newborn Photography in East Grinstead
Newborn photo shoots are best when your baby is between 5 and 10 days old—this is when they’re at their sleepiest and curliest, perfect for capturing those beautifully serene images. To ensure you don’t miss out, I recommend booking while you’re still pregnant—we’ll set a provisional date for a week after your due date and adjust if needed once your baby arrives.
Your session takes place in my warm and cosy studio in Crawley Down, designed for your baby’s comfort. The shoot is relaxed, unrushed, and includes three digital images of your choice, all for £95. There’s no sales session—just a private online gallery where you can view and select your favourites at your own pace.
