Sometimes the joy of just having a cake can be enough!  This guy wasn’t actually that fussed about eating too much of his cake but he was super pleased to have it and all the attention that he was getting.

I’ve said it many times before but you don’t need to have a lot of actual smashing action to get great cake smash photos.  Just having your child excited to be the centre of attention and having a new fun object to play with and a tiny wooden spoon to hold can be enough to great images to celebrate that first birthday.

Actually many babies are a bit unsure of what is expected of them when they come to a cake smash – hardly surprising as you don’t normally give them a huge cake and sit around and stare at them!  So even for babies that are keen to get eating, it usually takes them a few minutes to get into it.  There’s no rush and no panic if they don’t dive right in and start to make a mess.  Patience, demonstration and the addition of a digging implement in the form of one of my tiny spoons will usually get them involved and happy to pose.  If they don’t actually eat a lot of cake, then it’s no big deal – more for you to take home and enjoy for your tea!
