Here’s some ideas for things you might want to bring along to your newborn photo shoot…

Your Usual Change Bag

Nappies, wipes, muslins and all that stuff – yeah, like you’d leave home without it!

Anything You Might Like to Include in Your Photos

Examples might be first toys, favourite blankets, gifted / handmade items, sports scarves, personalised items.  Full outfit changes can be tricky with it comes to dressing and undressing a sleeping baby so it’s best to avoid too many changes.  For most sessions, we work with your little on in their nappy or birthday suit and add props and accessories from there.

Outfits You’d Like to be Photographed In

If you’re planning to join in the photographs (and I’d definitely recommend that you do if only for a few – you might not feel camera ready but it will be lovely to look back on your first days as a family), then bring along something you would like to be photographed in.  Plain tops photograph the best and don’t date in the finished photograph.  Don’t forget a hairbrush and a bit of lip gloss if you fancy it too.  It’s worth dressing in layers for your session and changing for your photos as the studio will be at naked newborn temperature which is quite hot for us adults.

Dummy

I’m not going to wade into the debate on this one but if you’re using one, then bring it along as it can be a useful tool in soothing your baby to sleep.

Formula and Bottle Warmer

If you’re using it, then bring some along plus something to get it to the right temperature. Obviously if you’re breast feeding, you kind of already have everything you need with you but if you want to bring along a feeding pillow to get yourself comfy then by all means do.

iPad, Phone, Book, Kindle etc

You’re welcome to bring along whatever you like to relax with.  Of course, you’re welcome to simply sit back and watch your images being created by if you want to catch up on emails, social media or just generally take some time out then this is good chance.

Snacks & Drinks for You

You might as well make the most of the break while your photos are being taken, plus the sessions can be quite long and the studio will be warm so definitely keep hydrated by bringing along a drink at least.

Newborn Photography

A newborn photo shoot is best when your baby is between 5 and 10 days old as this is when they are at their maximum sleepiness and poseability to capture those dreamy shots.  For this reason, I definitely recommend that you book when you are pregnant as this is one less thing to worry about scheduling when you’ve just got home from the hospital.   We make an appointment for your due date plus 7 days and then adjust it as needed.

My newborn shoots include your three favourite digital images which you select from your online gallery a few weeks after your photo shoot – I don’t make you attend a sales or viewing session.  Sessions take place in my warm and cosy studio in Crawley Down and cost £95.
