Every Christmas, I see families grow in front of my camera. Sometimes it happens a little at a time – a baby sitting instead of lying down, a missing tooth, longer legs, deeper laughs. And sometimes you scroll back through the years and suddenly realise: this was the last one.
This family have been coming to my Christmas events since the very beginning. From their very first festive portrait – small faces, bright eyes, a little unsure of the camera – to this final session, where childhood has quietly shifted into something older and more self-assured.
There’s something really special about photographing families across years. Christmas portraits aren’t just about the season, they become markers of time. They show how siblings grow into their roles, how personalities settle, how traditions quietly evolve. And while this will be their last visit for a Christmas session (the kids are officially too grown-up now), I love knowing these photographs exist. A little timeline of who they were, year after year. Loud pyjamas, matching smiles, awkward phases and confident grins – all part of the story.
That’s why I believe Christmas sessions aren’t just for little ones. They’re about now. However your family looks today. Because one day, this version will feel just as precious as the very first.
