Planning Your Newborn Studio Session

Timeless newborn photography in Crawley Down

Looking for beautiful studio photography for your newborn? These early days sessions capture the sweetest stage — from tiny fingers and toes, to fluffy hair and tucked up dreamy poses — in a calm, baby-led studio setting. Based in Crawley Down, I specialise in relaxed, natural portraits for babies and families across West Sussex and the surrounding areas.

What to Expect at This Age

Newborn sessions should take place within your baby’s first two weeks to maximise the chances of getting those sleepy photos – at this age, they are still furled and gloriously snoozy (not all the time but you know…).  I’ll work dictated by their preferences and comfort levels however they’re feeling on the day to capture a set of memories for you from that blurry first couple of weeks at home together.

For Families Too

These sessions aren’t just for babies — I always include a mix of images with parents and siblings if you’d like. Family portraits at this age tend to feel natural and connected, especially as babies start to engage and show their personalities.

Planning Your Newborn Studio Session

Welcome! If you’ve landed here from Pinterest, you’re in exactly the right place to start planning your newborn photo shoot.

When babies are brand new (under two weeks old), they tend to be tucked up and happy to sleep but however they’re happy on the day, I’ll work with them to capture them at their brand new best.

Session Style Options

There are a few ways we can style your session, depending on your baby’s stage and personality – we have time for three different sections so you can keep it all one style or mix and match – whatever takes your fancy!

  • Simple & Classic – Keep all our work on the posing beanbag with blanket backdrops.

  • Backdrops & Props – If your baby is already confident on their tummy, then we can include backdrops and props from my curated range.

  • Seasonal Themes – A subtle nod to the season with set design or prop accents.

  • Fine Art Portraits – A timeless feel, styled to let your baby’s personality shine through.

What to Bring

  • Nappies and all the usual baby stuff, snacks, and a favourite toy for comfort.

  • Any personal outfits you’d like included (you’re welcome to use studio pieces too).  I recommend up to three.

  • A plain vest or bodysuit is perfect for some of the simpler setups.

Your Session – Your Way

You can have as much control and input into how your session is styled as you’d like – some people enjoy the planning, others turn up and prefer to just go with the flow and keep it all very simple.  Either way, I’m here to support you in creating your images.  On the Pinterest Plan your Newborn Session Board, you’ll be able to view and select your favourites from my range of

  • Backdrops
  • Props
  • Bunting
  • Hats & Headbands
  • Themes & Accessories
  • and view a whole lot of general info, even some YouTube links if you like your content in video format.

Planning Your Session on Pinterest (Optional)

If you’re a Pinterest fan—or just want to browse beautifully curated ideas—you’re welcome to explore the “Plan Your Newborn Session board I’ve created.

Here’s how it can help you:

  • Browse styling ideas – See ready-made backdrops, outfits, props, and seasonal themes that work beautifully at this age
  • Save your favourites – Pin the looks you love so you can refer back—even after booking. You don’t need to only pin from the board, you can add your favourite posts from insta, facebook, the website or any stuff that inspires you.
  • Share with me – Either invite me to collaborate on your board, or send a link later so I can see your vision – totally up to you!
  • No pressure – I shape your session from your session options form. You don’t have to use Pinterest—but it’s there if it helps and if you love a good Pin session!

Bottom line:
Pinterest is a friendly tool to spark inspiration and share your vision, but there’s absolutely no requirement to use it. I’ve got everything covered through our client hub and pre-session prep—think of the board as your creative playground!
