This isn’t actually a tub splash image, well it kind of is as he did enjoy a good splash, but it had a different meaning for this family. They wanted to use the milk bath to mark the end of their breastfeeding year together.
The mum had asked me the day before the session whether I’d done a milk bath before, as she was keen to create something that felt personal to them. I had done one before, but only as an alternative to a tub splash, so this was a nice challenge. He was eight months old at this point, and my perspex tub is on the smaller side, so we decided to do it at his second Baby Photography Club session rather than wait until his first birthday tub splash in case he’d grown too big to fit by then.
His mum brought along some oranges for a pop of colour and some frozen breast milk, and we set about creating the images. Pierce was completely in his element in the water, and we ended up with some really fun shots alongside the more considered ones. Flowers would work just as well as the oranges if you wanted a softer look, or you can keep it simple and let the milky water do the work.
