Thanks for booking your dog photo shoot with me!

Whether your dog is the centre of your world or a much-loved part of your wider family, they’re always welcome in my studio. This guide has everything you need to know about booking a dog portrait session with me — from how it works, to what to bring, and what to expect on the day. It’s all here so you can relax and enjoy the experience (with treats at the ready, of course!).

Just Booked…

Thanks so much for booking your studio dog portrait session — I can’t wait to welcome you and your four-legged friend! These sessions are relaxed, fun, and totally tailored to your dog’s personality. Whether they’re a high-energy goofball or a chilled-out snuggler, we’ll work at their pace and capture their character beautifully.

You don’t need to prepare anything right now — just give them an extra cuddle and know that everything you’ll need to know will be right here when you need it. I’ll be in touch closer to your session date to confirm the details and check if you have any specific ideas you’d like to include.

Planning Inspiration on my Dedicated Client Pinterest Boards

If you love a bit of visual planning,I’ve created a dedicated Pinterest board to help you plan your newborn session with ease. It’s packed with real session examples, styling ideas, prop suggestions, and answers to common questions—all designed to help you feel prepared and inspired.

You can use the board in whatever way works best for you:

  • Pin your favourites to your own board to build a personal moodboard.

  • Invite me to your board if you’d like to collaborate on ideas.

  • Or simply show me your saved pins when you arrive at the studio so I know what’s caught your eye.

There’s no pressure to have everything figured out ahead of time—but if you enjoy planning, this is a great place to start.

Two Weeks Before…

Your dog photo shoot is peeking into view on your calendar and you might be wondering what to expect from it so here’s all the info you need.

Things to Bring Along

There’s no need to bring along anything other than yourselves and of course your dog in their lead but I’m sure not going to complain if you are dressing them up in something fancy Of course, you don’t have to but I’m just saying from vests to bow ties, I’m here for all of it.  I have water and dog bowl at the studio but definitely bring along any treats or toys that you think will help them to give a top notch paw-formance.  Other than that, I’ll have some options available for you at the studio when you arrive based on the size of dog you are bringing and anything you’ve specially requested.

The Day Before…

Grooming Touch-Ups
If your dog is due a groom, a tidy-up trim or a quick brush can make a big difference in how they look on camera — though of course, I’ve photographed plenty of scruffy pups and they always look great too. The main thing is that they’re happy and comfortable.

Feeding Schedule
Try not to feed your dog a big meal right before the session — it’s easier to get their attention with treats if they’re not completely full. That said, we’ll absolutely work at your dog’s pace and comfort level.

And most importantly, don’t stress about whether your dog will be a top model or not.  I’ve worked with lots over the years (and loved them all) and we’ll just work at their pace and comfort level to give you a collection of images you’ll treasure.

On the Day…

Getting to the Studio

If it is your first time visiting me, then definitely take a look at the directions before you come. It’s not easy to find if you just head to Turners Hill Road and hope to come across it as the postcode will take you to a neighbouring farm (postcodes are very wide ranging here). The best thing to do is go to Google Maps and put in Sarah Fisher Photography but if you don’t use that, then like I say, just take a peek at the directions.  When you arrive, you’ll be parking on a driveway – there’s an A-Frame sign to show you the best place to put your car. You don’t need to go too close to the hedge though – leave yourself plenty of room for you to get out!

Let Them Have a Little Walk
If your dog has plenty of energy, it can be helpful to let them have a short walk before you arrive. That way, they’ll be a little calmer and more focused when we start taking photos — but don’t worry if that’s not possible, I’m very used to working with dogs who are full of beans!

Starting your Session

When you arrive, I’ll come down to meet you on the driveway and I’ll take you straight up to the studio to get you settled in.   We’ll let your dog have a little sniff about while we talk over the options I’ve prepared and then we’ll get on with the fun business of the day.  I’ll guide you through everything you need to know to gently coax your dog into the right places for pictures (and keep them there!).  I do insist on being able to pet them just a little bit though – that part is non-negotiable!

Packing Checklist

You might like to bring along some of the following to make sure your session goes without a hitch and you can get exactly the images you want.

  • Dog accessories or fancy collar
  • Face wipes
  • Treats
  • Favourite toy
  • Favourite blanket
  • Water for you
  • Personal props you’d like to include

Two Weeks After…

Your gallery will normally be ready for you to view about two weeks after your session and so this is a great time to keep an eye on your email (or indeed your Spam folder!) to see I’ve sent you through the info.  When it turns up, it’s as simple as clicking on the link, popping in your password and you’ll be heading straight to your gallery. With dog photography sessions, all your images are included so you simply need to download them direct to your device  and enjoy them.

If you ever need to access your gallery directly, you can head to my gallery homepage at and enter your personal password.
