Winter often gets framed as a difficult time to have a baby – darker days, colder weather, more time indoors. But for many families, those same things can make the early weeks feel simpler, not harder.
Life naturally slows down in winter. There’s less expectation to be out, visiting, or doing things on a schedule. That can be a relief when your days are shaped around feeds, naps, and learning each other’s rhythms.
Layers also make life easier. Warm clothing, blankets, and wraps are practical rather than decorative, and feeding access tends to be simpler than in lighter summer clothes. There’s no pressure to “make the most” of the weather or plan outings around it.
From a photography point of view, winter suits studio sessions well. Everything is warm, calm, and controlled, with no reliance on outdoor light or weather. Babies stay comfortable, parents can relax, and there’s time to work gently and unhurriedly.
Winter doesn’t need to be dressed up as magical to be good. Sometimes it’s good simply because it gives you permission to stay close, take things slowly, and focus on the very small world you’re building at home.
Newborn Photography in East Grinstead
Newborn photo shoots are best when your baby is between 5 and 10 days old—this is when they’re at their sleepiest and curliest, perfect for capturing those beautifully serene images. To ensure you don’t miss out, I recommend booking while you’re still pregnant—we’ll set a provisional date for a week after your due date and adjust if needed once your baby arrives.
Your session takes place in my warm and cosy studio in Crawley Down, designed for your baby’s comfort. The shoot is relaxed, unrushed, and includes three digital images of your choice, all for £95. There’s no sales session—just a private online gallery where you can view and select your favourites at your own pace.
