One minute, your baby is lying happily on their blanket… the next, they’re off on a grand adventure across the room!

That moment when babies start moving—whether crawling, rolling, or even taking their first wobbly steps—is an exciting milestone, and it’s a perfect time to capture their growing personality in a baby photoshoot.

If your little one is on the move, here’s how we make sure your photoshoot is fun, relaxed, and filled with gorgeous images that reflect this incredible stage.

The Best Age for ‘On the Move’ Baby Photography

Every baby develops at their own pace, but most little ones start moving independently between 6 and 10 months. This could be:

• Rolling over and reaching for thing
• Crawling (or commando shuffling!)
• Pulling up to stand
• Taking those first wobbly steps

How We Capture Beautiful Photos of Moving Babies

Fast-moving babies? No problem! Studio sessions are designed to be relaxed and playful so we can capture their personality, whether they’re:

• Curiously exploring props and textures
• Engaging with you for gorgeous parent-baby moments
• Reacting to silly noises, peek-a-boo, or little games

Even if they’re crawling away mid-session, I’ll work with them to embrace their energy and turn it into beautiful images.

What If They Won’t Sit Still? (Spoiler: That’s Totally Fine!)

Let’s be honest—most babies at this stage are far too busy to stay still! That’s why I don’t rely on stiff poses or expect them to sit in one place.

• We keep sessions active, fun, and natural.
• I use creative angles and regularly change props to offer them a novelty to keep them in one place for a few extra seconds
• Little breaks are always welcome! Some babies need a cuddle or a snack break between shots, and that’s completely fine.

Rather than forcing stillness, I capture their energy, curiosity, and personality in a way that reflects this wonderful stage.

What to Bring for an Active Baby Photoshoot

Since we’re working with on-the-move babies, here are a few things that can help the session go smoothly:

• Comfy, non-restrictive outfits – Nothing too stiff or fussy; they need to move freely!
• A favourite toy or comfort item – Sometimes, a familiar object helps settle them.
• Snacks & water – Moving around is hard work! Small breaks keep babies happy.
• Parents should be ready to join in! Sometimes, having you in the frame makes for the best natural moments.

Why These Sessions Are So Special

This stage is a huge turning point—babies are discovering new independence, curiosity, and confidence, and it’s a joy to capture that excitement on camera.
