EDIT: It’s now called Lifestyle Newborn Photography!

Just over a year ago, I added a new style of newborn photography to my portfolio at the studio and I named it Natural Newborn photography for want of anything better to call it.

It’s now a pretty popular option with many of my visiting families and I’m very glad I did it but I kind of feel that I have made a mistake with the name in some areas as it implies that any other photography style can’t have a natural feel to it.  So let me tell you about it a bit more and how it compares with my Traditional Newborn photography service.

So when you come to visit for a newborn photo shoot, you can choose the style of photography that you’d like when you complete your options form the day before your session.  You choose between a Natural Newborn or Traditional Newborn session.

The Natural Newborn session involves my bed set and Moses basket and is designed to give you more of a lifestyle, at home feel to your finished images. It’s lovely and an increasingly popular choice with clients but, like I said earlier, I do feel I made an error when I named it. The problem with calling it a Natural Newborn session is that it implies that the Traditional Newborn style has to be prop heavy and very styled. It can be those things at all but you can also keep the Traditional Newborn session very simple with a natural feel to it.

There are a few important differences to know about between the two when you make your decision as, due to the way the studio is set up, it’s a one or the other (rather than a mix and match) situation.
The little graphic below should be a helpful guide…

Newborn Photography

A newborn photo shoot is best when your baby is between 5 and 10 days old as this is when they are at their maximum sleepiness and poseability to capture those dreamy shots.  For this reason, I definitely recommend that you book when you are pregnant as this is one less thing to worry about scheduling when you’ve just got home from the hospital.   We make an appointment for your due date plus 7 days and then adjust it as needed.

My newborn shoots include your three favourite digital images which you select from your online gallery a few weeks after your photo shoot – I don’t make you attend a sales or viewing session.  Sessions take place in my warm and cosy studio in Crawley Down and cost £95.
