Three brothers. One studio. Zero interest in being told what to do. And honestly? That’s exactly how the best sessions go.
These three came in full of energy and very much had their own ideas about how things should go. They choreographed their own poses, directed each other with great confidence, and at one point were absolutely convinced I could photoshop them onto the deck of a ship. (I could not. I did tell them this. They remained optimistic.)
What you end up with when kids take ownership like that is something that actually looks like them. Not stiff, not posed-within-an-inch-of-their-life, just three brothers being exactly who they are – loud, funny, and clearly very comfortable in each other’s company.
Mum and dad came in too and we got some lovely family shots alongside the boys doing their thing. Sessions like this remind me why I love photographing older children. They bring so much personality with them and you just have to keep up.
If you’ve got kids who you reckon would rather direct the shoot than be directed, brilliant. Send them my way.
