A Swaddled newborn in a nest of peach peony flowers

These lovely peach peonies are a real favourite at my newborn photo shoots and it’s easy to see why as they really set off the delicacy of a newborn.

There are some other advantages to them as well.   Firstly, they are extremely pretty and the peachy / blush colour is a nice girly alternative to pink.

Secondly, and this is one of the main ones, is that they are a really easy way to change up your images if your baby is a bit unsettled as they require almost zero disruption. Now I mention this, not because I’m lazy – I’ll literally go to the ends of the earth to get the shots you want, but because you have to be realistic as a newborn photographer. Some babies are more unsettled than others and so to keep moving and reposing them unnecessarily disturbs them and won’t get the the results in your finished image gallery.   So it’s my job to find a pathway through your session which maximises the opportunities in each pose and makes the session as relaxing as possible for you. Adding in the flowers is a great way to create a completely different image while your baby peacefully slumbers, unaware of what’s going on around them.

Once we’ve moved through everything one pose has to offer, then we simply move on and repeat the process with the next pose.  It’s a calming experience for both you and your baby and you still get lots of different pictures of those early days.
