Beautiful Photos Don’t Have an Expiry Date
Life with a new baby is full-on—there’s feeding, changing, adjusting to your new normal… and sometimes, getting round to booking a newborn photo shoot slips down the list. If that’s you, please don’t worry. You’re not too late.
“Nearly newborn” sessions—typically for babies between 3 and 8 weeks old—are still full of magic. Your baby may be more alert, more wriggly, and less likely to sleep, but that doesn’t mean we can’t capture beautiful, meaningful images.

What’s Different About This Stage?
Babies beyond the typical newborn window (up to about 2–3 weeks old) often:
Stay awake more during sessions
Prefer being unwrapped or loosely swaddled
Have stronger movements or startle reflexes
May experience a little more flakiness, milk spots, or colic
And that’s OK. All of this is normal—and totally photographable.
What We Focus On Instead
While deep, curled-up sleepy poses might not be on the cards, there are so many other things we can capture:
Wide, wondering eyes
Tiny hands clasping yours
Delicate facial expressions and stretches
Close-ups of eyelashes, hair whorls, and tiny toes
A strong sense of personality already emerging
These sessions have a different energy—curious, alert, and beautifully real.

Styling and Session Flow
As always, I’ll style your session gently and simply, using soft blankets, wraps, and neutral textures that complement your baby’s age and comfort. We go at their pace, with plenty of time for feeds, cuddles, and settling.
If they sleep—wonderful. If not—we embrace the wide eyes and focus on connection, detail, and emotion.
You don’t need to prepare anything differently, and you’re always welcome to include sibling or parent portraits too if you’d like.
No Such Thing as ‘Too Late’
Every age brings something special. Whether your baby was early, you’ve had a tough start, or time just ran away from you—there is always a way to create something beautiful.
“Nearly newborn” sessions are a gentle reminder that perfection doesn’t have to follow a schedule. You didn’t miss the moment—you just brought your baby into the world, and that’s always worth celebrating.
