There’s something really special about photographing the same children year after year.
At my Christmas events, families often come back again and again – sometimes without really thinking about it at the time. But when you place those images side by side, the story they tell is quietly powerful. Tiny hands grow longer. Baby curls turn into glossy hair. Shy smiles become confident ones.
These “then and now” Christmas portraits aren’t planned milestones. They’re simply what happens when families make space for photos to be part of their traditions. No pressure. No big expectations. Just turning up, once a year, and letting time do its thing.
I love photographing these sessions because they capture more than just Christmas outfits or festive sets. They show growth, continuity, and familiarity. The way a child still sits in the same way. The look they give the camera that hasn’t really changed. The sense of comfort that comes from knowing exactly where you are and what to expect.
If you’ve ever hesitated because your child isn’t a baby anymore, or because you’ve “already got Christmas photos”, this is your reminder that those in-between years matter just as much. Maybe even more.
Christmas photos aren’t just for the firsts. They’re for the story.
