Here’s the first of this year’s four Christmas sets.
Frosty Forest is a quiet corner of woodland that has found its way into my studio. There’s a teepee with a star at the peak, trees close enough to touch, and the sort of soft light that makes everyone drop their shoulders about thirty seconds after they walk in.
It’s the calmest of this year’s sets, and that’s deliberate. Not every child arrives ready to perform. Some need a minute, a small space of their own, and something to look at that isn’t a camera. A teepee does all three at once. Children go in, peer out, and forget I’m there, which is usually when the pictures start working.
Who it suits
Frosty Forest is lovely for siblings, because there’s a natural spot for one to sit and another to lean in. It works well for children who find busy spaces hard going, since there’s nothing noisy about it. And it photographs beautifully with a pair of pyjamas and bare feet, if you’re the sort of family who likes a cosy picture rather than a smart one.
What to wear
Soft, simple and warm. Cream, oatmeal, rust and forest green all sit well against the woodland. I’d steer away from bright red for this one, as it tends to take over. Patterned pyjamas are welcome, and so are woolly socks. Or dress for the weather in cosy festive jumpers.
Booking
Frosty Forest is one of four sets, and your session includes all of them. Sessions run from Friday 13 to Sunday 22 November at my studio in Crawley Down, and cost £35 including your favourite digital image.
Booking opens at 8am on Thursday 1 October. If you’re on my Christmas VIP list, you can book from 7am. Weekend slots go quickly, so that hour is your best chance of the time you want.
