I have shot quite a few ‘best friends’ portraits in the past but they have always been for kids which is missing a trick as far as I’m concerned and these lovely ladies thought so too.
I first met Angie when she brought her daughter and her friends along for a photo shoot to celebrate her birthday and they (and I) had an absolute blast in the studio creating tons of fun images. So when Angie’s bestie was visiting from abroad, she thought it would be a great idea to capture the same kind of thing for them as well. The friendships that we make and keep as adults can be incredibly precious -they’re the family that we’ve chosen – and they are definitely worth celebrating.
We had a great fun photo shoot with so much laughter in it and they brought along some Prosecco to include, both celebratory and to capture all the fun times they’ve had sipping bubbles together over the years. We had a different type of bubbles too – as one of Angie’s favourite pictures from her daughter’s photo shoot was when the girls were messing about with my bubble machine so we recreated that.
One of the other sets of images that was a legacy to her daughter’s photo shoot was the little bed and PJ set. Her daughter and her friends had all brought along onesies and teddies to pose with and, in their shoot, I quickly mocked up a shot where they were all ‘fast asleep’. These guys had brought along PJs and teddies too but I thought they deserved a bit of a grander, more grown up setting so I put up my headboard backdrop and got out the duvet and pillows. Just love the results! A big girl version of a fun setup…
Photos are, at the end of the day, just memories and dedicating some time to creating some fun memories in a relaxed environment is the perfect way to celebrate that special friendship.
