Meet Theo, tucked up in the wooden bowl with his Peter Rabbit for company.
This one actually started as a base image for a digital composite. I’d positioned him in his teal dungarees ready to blend into a digital backdrop, but once I’d done that and looked at the set-up, I liked it enough on its own to take it further. The toy came out, we added it in alongside him, and it became a completely different image.
That’s quite typical of how newborn sessions work. There’s a rough plan, and then there are the opportunities that present themselves on the day. Theo was relaxed and easy to move throughout, which meant there was room to experiment. A settled baby is the best possible starting point, and it opens up a lot more options for the gallery.
If your baby has a toy that’s already become a favourite, bring it along. It adds something to the images that no studio prop can.
