It is one of those things that pops up everywhere once you have a baby.
“Winter babies are calm.”
“Summer babies are full of energy.”
“Autumn babies have big personalities.”
And it is hard not to wonder… is there anything in it?
The short answer is that your baby’s personality is not determined by the month they were born. But that does not mean these ideas are not fun to explore.
So let’s take a relaxed, lighthearted look at baby personality by birth month, while keeping things firmly grounded in reality.

January to March Babies
Babies born in the early part of the year are often described as calm, thoughtful and a little more observant. These are the babies who seem happy to take everything in before reacting. They might watch the world quietly, studying faces, voices and movement.
Of course, this can also be influenced by the season. Early months of the year tend to be quieter, with more time spent indoors and fewer busy outings.
Whether calm or lively, this stage is all about adjustment and discovery.
April to June Babies
Spring and early summer babies are often linked with curiosity and expressiveness.
These babies are said to be more vocal, more reactive and quick to engage with people around them. You might notice lots of cooing, smiling and early attempts at interaction.
Longer daylight hours and more time outside can create a slightly more stimulating environment, which can encourage that outward energy.
But again, this is just a pattern people like to notice, not a rule your baby has to follow.
July to September Babies
Summer babies are often described as easygoing, smiley and naturally social.
With more opportunities for outings, fresh air and meeting people, these babies may appear more relaxed in new environments.
They are often thought of as the “go with the flow” babies, happy to be part of whatever is going on.
That said, every baby has their own rhythm. Some will thrive in busy settings, others will prefer quieter moments, regardless of when they were born.

October to December Babies
Autumn and winter babies are often linked with strong personalities and deeper sensitivity.
These babies may show clear preferences early on, reacting strongly to what they like and do not like.
They might also appear more emotionally expressive, with big reactions and strong attachments.
Seasonally, this can again be shaped by environment, with more time spent indoors and closer family interaction during the colder months.
So… Does Birth Month Really Matter?
Not really, at least not in the way these lists sometimes suggest. Your baby’s personality is shaped by a combination of temperament, environment and, most importantly, their relationship with you. Some babies are naturally more sensitive. Some are more laid back. Some are highly active, while others prefer to observe. These traits are not created by a calendar month. They are part of who your baby is.
Why We Still Love These Ideas
Even though they are not scientific, there is something comforting about these little personality patterns. They give us a way to make sense of what we are seeing, especially in those early days when everything feels new and uncertain. And sometimes, they even feel a little bit accurate, which makes them fun to share and talk about.
The Bit That Actually Matters
The most important thing is not whether your baby fits a category. It is getting to know them.
Noticing what they enjoy, what settles them, what excites them and what overwhelms them. These small observations tell you far more than any chart or list ever could. Personality is not something that arrives fully formed. It builds slowly, through everyday moments and interactions.
