When it comes to baby photography, every little detail plays a part in creating a beautiful final image. From soft lighting to gentle poses, it all comes together to tell a story. One often-overlooked but absolutely essential element? The blankets!

I have an ever-growing collection of blankets in the studio, and they’re far more than just a cosy extra. They add texture, warmth, and depth to your baby’s portraits, making them feel even more special. Whether it’s a soft neutral background or a rich, velvety texture to complement your baby’s outfit, there’s a blanket for every style.

A Blanket for Every Look

Here’s a little glimpse into some of the blankets I use in the studio and why they work so well for baby photography.

Soft & Neutral

Neutral blankets are perfect for keeping things simple and timeless. These could not be more on trend this year as design is so much about neutral shades and mixing textures so this is a commonly used section of my collection. The soft whites, creams, and beiges create a gentle, airy feel that lets the focus remain on your baby. They also work well as a base to layer on different textures and props.

Rich & Velvety

Sometimes, a deeper colour is the perfect way to add contrast and drama to an image. I love using rich greens, deep blues, and textured velvets to give portraits a more classic feel.

Delicate Pastels

Soft pastel blankets are a studio staple. They bring in just a hint of colour without overwhelming the image, and they work beautifully for both boys and girls.

Textured & Cosy

Textures like chunky knits, faux furs, and woven details add so much depth to an image. These are perfect for creating a tactile, layered look that feels cosy and inviting.

Blankets in Action

Beyond just looking beautiful, blankets help babies feel snug and secure during their session. They can be wrapped around little ones for swaddled shots, draped over props for an extra layer of comfort, or used to create soft, dreamy backgrounds.

The best part? These blankets are completely versatile, so no two shoots look exactly the same—even when using the same setups!

Creating a Cosy, Beautiful Portrait

Every baby is different, and I love choosing blankets that complement their skin tone, outfit, and overall session vibe. Whether it’s a classic neutral look or a pop of colour, my collection is always growing to make sure every session is unique.
