Clarence the Know it Owl

Every forest has its messenger, and in this one, that title belongs — unofficially, but quite firmly — to Clarence.

A plump owl with snowy feathers and a mind full of commentary, Clarence lives lower in the fir tree than most of his kind. He says it’s for “ease of communication,” though others suspect it’s because he can’t resist being in the middle of everything.

The Self-Appointed Guide

Long ago, Clarence decided that the forest needed structure — and who better to provide it than an owl of his intellect? He keeps meticulous watch on all woodland goings-on: who’s nesting where, who’s borrowed whose berries, and when the first snowflake of the season falls. If there’s a matter worth discussing, Clarence is already halfway through an opinion on it.

A Perch with a Purpose

Most owls prefer quiet nights high among the stars, but Clarence likes the chatter below. His perch sits just above the post box used by Tuppence and Niblet to deliver their festive messages, giving him an excellent excuse to oversee operations. He greets every traveller, offers advice to anyone within earshot, and occasionally rearranges the forest’s schedules to his liking.

A Heart Beneath the Feathers

For all his fuss and flutter, Clarence means well. He’s the first to spot a storm coming, the one who reminds everyone when the solstice feast begins, and the last to settle before dawn. Even those who roll their eyes at his “helpful suggestions” admit that the forest would feel strangely quiet without him.

Ever Alert, Ever Opinionated

If you visit the fir grove on a still winter night, listen for a soft ahem above your shoulder — that’ll be Clarence, ready to offer his thoughts on your scarf choice or snow-angel technique. Whether asked or not, he’s always ready to share. After all, what good is wisdom if you keep it to yourself?
