Newborn photography has a short window in which you can capture those deeply sleepy poses. Ideally between five and ten days old, and definitely within the first two weeks.

Sometimes that window gets missed, for all sorts of reasons, and the session has to happen a little later than planned. An older baby is going to be more awake and considerably more wriggly, but that doesn’t mean the photos can’t still work. In this case we used my silk flowers, which would normally surround a sleeping baby, around a very wide awake one instead. They look just as good either way, and you get to see those eyes, which is a definite bonus.
As a general rule, the five to ten day window is the one to aim for. But if you’ve missed it, get in touch anyway and we’ll work with whatever stage your baby is at.
