Twins, or even triplets, are always welcome at the studio for a newborn photo shoot. Whilst I’ve never actually had triplets (I guess their scarcity coupled with the fact that new parents with three newborns probably don’t fancy a studio visit), I’ve been lucky enough to work with quite a few sets of twins over the years.
When it comes to timing a newborn photo shoot with twins, or any multiple birth, they tend to arrive a little bit early so we have a shoot window that’s a little longer. I would still recommend coming to the studio in your babies’ first three weeks with two weeks being ideal. Maybe more so than with single newborn photo shoots, I’d definitely advise booking while you’re still pregnant to guarantee getting a slot in the studio to capture those crazy, beautiful early days.
The saying ‘double the trouble, double the fun’ definitely applies to twin photo shoots! Obviously we’re now relying on two babies to cooperate rather than just one so there is more focused work required by me. However, the good news for twin mums and dads is that the extra work really does only apply to what I need to do – you’re still free to turn up and chill on the sofa for most of the session except for providing feeds where required.
Most twins settle better when they’re really snuggled up to each other which is only natural given that this is what they’re used to. However, when one becomes unsettled, I take the opportunity to capture the remaining twin on their own and then repeat when they turn the tables on us – it’s a great way of getting the maximum images from your gallery and capturing their own individual features as well as creating memories of them as a pair.
The day before your session, you’ll receive your photo shoot options form so you can select the colour scheme, accessories and props that you would like. Some of the props wouldn’t work with twins – my tiny wooden hammock for example as that’s definitely only big enough for one – but it’ll be pretty 0bvious when you look at the options although I’m always happy to talk over your choices if you’d like to.
To keep twins super settled at the same time, swaddles are extremely helpful and I have plenty of swaddle bases and wraps to make this happen and coordinate with whatever props and colour scheme you have chosen. We can accessorise these in all sorts of ways with hats, headbands, florals and blankets to create lots of different looks without disturbing your babies (the base layer just stays on and we change everything else around that).
So if you’re expecting twins, don’t feel that you wouldn’t be able to have a newborn photo shoot!
PS. the price is the same as for a single baby by the way…
