This is Artie sleeping peacefully at his newborn photo shoot and looking just Peaky Blinders perfect in the cute little flat cap that his mum and dad brought along to include in the photos.
He was a little unsettled at the start of the session but perseverance is key when it comes to newborn photography and we fed and rocked him until he was ready to settle down and get his pictures taken. I have a few strategies to get as many images as possible out of even an unsettled baby so we always start with these when a baby hasn’t been too sure about sleeping, so if they wake up and get grumpy again, you have as many pictures as possible. I quite often think that newborn photography is quite a lot like a particularly unpredictable game of Buckaroo – I work with your baby taking the lead to create your images and they can always go from zero to sixty at the drop of a hat (or flat cap!) and of course back again the other way just as quickly. When babies are unsettled at the start of a session, I can sometimes feels parents start to worry that I’ll give up and they won’t get any pictures but rest assured, we always get there in the end!
Newborn Photography
A newborn photo shoot is best when your baby is between 5 and 10 days old as this is when they are at their maximum sleepiness and poseability to capture those dreamy shots. For this reason, I definitely recommend that you book when you are pregnant as this is one less thing to worry about scheduling when you’ve just got home from the hospital. We make an appointment for your due date plus 7 days and then adjust it as needed.
My newborn shoots include your three favourite digital images which you select from your online gallery a few weeks after your photo shoot – I don’t make you attend a sales or viewing session. Sessions take place in my warm and cosy studio in Crawley Down and cost £95.
