When older siblings are coming along to a newborn baby shoot, it’s quite often the case that mums and dads will bring along big brother / little sister tops to have them photographed in.
Now, I don’t want to stifle anyone’s creativity and it’s definitely a cute idea on paper but here’s the thing with it. There’s no real way at a newborn shoot to photograph them so all of the writing on the tops shows. The only semi-viable option is to photograph them from the top down but it turns out that this has quite a high failure rate as a lot of siblings don’t want to lie on the floor. Plus the writing is still very difficult to capture.
The other issue is that, when we work with still young themselves big siblings, it’s a lot easier to work with the newborn in a swaddle. They’re more settled and easier to manage which leaves us free to focus on capturing them together. Which means that the writing on any top is null and void at this point.
So my advice is not to bother with these type of tops for a newborn shoot. Instead, wait until your first baby photography club shoot where, as you can see above, they work just brilliantly!
Newborn Photography in East Grinstead
Newborn photo shoots are best when your baby is between 5 and 10 days old—this is when they’re at their sleepiest and curliest, perfect for capturing those beautifully serene images. To ensure you don’t miss out, I recommend booking while you’re still pregnant—we’ll set a provisional date for a week after your due date and adjust if needed once your baby arrives.
Your session takes place in my warm and cosy studio in Crawley Down, designed for your baby’s comfort. The shoot is relaxed, unrushed, and includes three digital images of your choice, all for £95. There’s no sales session—just a private online gallery where you can view and select your favourites at your own pace.
