As a newborn photographer, I don’t tend to work with a whole raft of props. For me, newborn photography is about showing off your baby not the depth and complexity of your prop stash and I’m definitely sensing a move across the industry to a more natural style of newborn image creation.
Now that’s not to say I don’t have a specially selected set of props that we can build into your newborn images and I love a mini set as much as the next girl – you just need to flick through my blog to know that – so I’m not that much of a purist. I do absolutely love my miniature bed (I have another one in dark wood that I use for very tiny babies) and I love the fact that it’s still very comfortable for your little one to snooze on as well as offering us lots of flexibility to customise it to different themes. This is a little floral set up which I love – my miniature patchwork quilt was one of the first newborn props that I ever made years ago and I still love it just as much to this day (there’s a baby blue one as well) but I’ve used the bed to create Toy Story images, birth announcements and even an Arsenal Football Club one – truly the perfect prop with so many different options!
Newborn Photography
A newborn photo shoot is best when your baby is between 5 and 10 days old as this is when they are at their maximum sleepiness and poseability to capture those dreamy shots. For this reason, I definitely recommend that you book when you are pregnant as this is one less thing to worry about scheduling when you’ve just got home from the hospital. We make an appointment for your due date plus 7 days and then adjust it as needed.
My newborn shoots include your three favourite digital images which you select from your online gallery a few weeks after your photo shoot – I don’t make you attend a sales or viewing session. Sessions take place in my warm and cosy studio in Crawley Down and cost £95.
