Baby Elsa was no stranger to the studio, although the last time she had been to visit she had been a bump inside her very glamorous mum at her maternity photo shoot!
Still, life had move on apace for this new family since their new arrival and they didn’t get round to booking their session until she was already three weeks old. This is really on the edge of the time that we have to get those beautiful sleepy and dreamy shots as little ones even at this tender age are already well engaged with the world around them and likely to stir when moved. So we knew that we were in for a more limited session in terms of posing but there are still plenty of lovely shots to get while your baby is still so tiny.
Her mum brought along some lovely accessories to use, including a purple headband and tutu which she really loved the colour of. I didn’t have an exact match for it in my blanket collection so we simply picked the nearest shade which clashed a bit when we took the photo but after a little Photoshop magic, we have a beautiful matched and toned image of this sleeping beauty. Much as I’d love to, I can’t have every shade of colour in my blankets and accessories so it’s always nice to have a bit of digital trickery in my back pocket to get the results that we want.
Ideally a newborn photo shoot needs to take place when your baby is between 5 and 10 days old to get that maximum sleepiness that we need to be able to gently guide your baby through the full range of poses. For this reason, I’d definitely recommend booking your shoot before your baby arrives – we simply pick a date of your due date plus seven days and then we adjust it as needed. That way, you have one less thing to think about scheduling in those crazy hectic early days!
