It was a joy to catch up with this family again after photographing their wedding a few years ago. They’d actually had another baby before this one but they missed out on newborn photography after an extended hospital stay which made it extra special to have them come and visit with their newest family member.
The day before your session, I send over a link to a form that allows you to let me know the kind of photos that you’re looking for – you can tell me about the colours that you like, the props you’d like to use and if you’d like to include a digital backdrop in your image gallery. Of course, all newborn photography is led by your baby and so it’s not a menu selection but having this gives me a great idea of the type of shots you want and we work to get as much choice as we can. In this case, their mum had selected for me to use a palette of neutral tones in creams and browns and I was more than happy to oblige – I love the clean and neutral look it creates and totally allows the images to focus on the baby.
It also gave me the perfect excuse to use my wooden LOVE letters for the first time and I adore how they photograph!
Newborn Photography
A newborn photo shoot is best when your baby is between 5 and 10 days old as this is when they are at their maximum sleepiness and poseability to capture those dreamy shots. For this reason, I definitely recommend that you book when you are pregnant as this is one less thing to worry about scheduling when you’ve just got home from the hospital. We make an appointment for your due date plus 7 days and then adjust it as needed.
My newborn shoots include your three favourite digital images which you select from your online gallery a few weeks after your photo shoot – I don’t make you attend a sales or viewing session. Sessions take place in my warm and cosy studio in Crawley Down and cost £95.
