An AI generated image of a black baby seat strapped inside a car

When you arrive for your newborn session, you’ve just done the hard bit—you’ve got out of the house with a new baby in tow! And if your little one has drifted off to sleep in the car on the way over (and car rides can work like magic!), here’s a tip that can make the start of your session even smoother:

Don’t rush to get them out and into your arms.
Just bring the car seat straight in to the studio.  If you’ve not been out before with a car seat in the back, it might be worth just having a quick practice to make sure you know what bit to press to unlatch it.

Why it works so well

Babies often arrive at the studio warm, cosy, and content from the car ride. If they’re already asleep in their seat, it can be the perfect opportunity to begin gently, with no disruption. It lets us talk through our options for the session, do the admin and generally just relax into the session and I can gently get them out of the seat when we’re ready to go.

It’s also helpful because the car seat keeps baby in that soft, curled-up position they naturally settle into when sleepy—exactly the kind of pose we want to preserve early in the session.

I’ll guide you from there

Once you’re inside and we’ve had a quick chat about what you’d like from your session, I’ll take over from there. I’ll gently lift them from the seat when the time’s right—usually when they’re in a deep, dreamy sleep—and we’ll begin the shoot without any unnecessary fuss or waking.

A simple step, a smoother session

It might seem like a small thing, but bringing baby into the studio while they’re still in their car seat really can help set the tone for a relaxed, successful shoot.
And don’t worry—if they’re wide awake and ready to see the world, we’ll work with that too. Every session is led by your baby, and I’m always prepared for wherever their mood takes us.

Newborn Photography in East Grinstead

Newborn photo shoots are best when your baby is between 5 and 10 days old—this is when they’re at their sleepiest and curliest, perfect for capturing those beautifully serene images. To ensure you don’t miss out, I recommend booking while you’re still pregnant—we’ll set a provisional date for a week after your due date and adjust if needed once your baby arrives.

Your session takes place in my warm and cosy studio in Crawley Down, designed for your baby’s comfort. The shoot is relaxed, unrushed, and includes three digital images of your choice, all for £95. There’s no sales session—just a private online gallery where you can view and select your favourites at your own pace.
