This is Arthur and his little smile is just to let us all know that he is very happy to be here and meet his mum, dad and big brother!

I’m not going to lie to you as he wasn’t the most cooperative little model.  I’m only being up front with you as I know that lots of people worry before their session that their baby will cry (they probably will) or feel bad during their session if their little ones are not keen on falling asleep (they probably won’t be).  It is pretty common for people to apologise for the fact that their baby is being wakeful during their session and I wondered why until a customer said that all the babies in my portfolio looked so peaceful.  Then the penny dropped. So this is to reassure you – very, very few of my tiniest clients turn up asleep and stay that way throughout their session.  Pretty much all of them have their periods of being awake, hungry or just flat out grumpy during a photo shoot.

We just work through it and get them snuggled up and back into the land of nod.  Sometimes that can mean that we take photos in short bursts with plenty of settling time in between and sometimes, they just favour me with a five minute deep sleep and I work really fast (but safely too of course!).  At the end of the session, you’ll have a set of peaceful looking photos of your baby and sometimes they even give me a little smile to let me know that I’m doing OK.

Newborn Photography

A newborn photo shoot is best when your baby is between 5 and 10 days old as this is when they are at their maximum sleepiness and poseability to capture those dreamy shots.  For this reason, I definitely recommend that you book when you are pregnant as this is one less thing to worry about scheduling when you’ve just got home from the hospital.   We make an appointment for your due date plus 7 days and then adjust it as needed.

My newborn shoots include your three favourite digital images which you select from your online gallery a few weeks after your photo shoot – I don’t make you attend a sales or viewing session.  Sessions take place in my warm and cosy studio in Crawley Down and cost £95.
