As a dog owner myself, I fully recognise that your fur babies are part of the family and so they’re always welcome in the studio. The fact that I just love hanging out with dogs has nothing to do with it and I resent the fact you thought it 🙂
I’m not saying that it’s easy to photograph newborns and dogs together and, of course, not all dogs would be comfortable in the studio environment – you know your puppy best. My golden rule is to get the baby fast asleep before we try to add in a dog as controlling two separate issues can feel a bit like spinning plates. That’s the plan anyway, although in this case, the baby was not so keen on getting into a deep sleep. Still, we soothed and settled him to the max that we could and then added in Percy. Luckily for me, Percy is an extremely chilled out Cocker Spaniel who I suspect really quite likes having his picture taken so we got the shot perfectly practically in one take.
Never work with children and animals? Bah, where would be the fun in that?
Newborn Photography
A newborn photo shoot is best when your baby is between 5 and 10 days old as this is when they are at their maximum sleepiness and poseability to capture those dreamy shots. For this reason, I definitely recommend that you book when you are pregnant as this is one less thing to worry about scheduling when you’ve just got home from the hospital. We make an appointment for your due date plus 7 days and then adjust it as needed.
My newborn shoots include your three favourite digital images which you select from your online gallery a few weeks after your photo shoot – I don’t make you attend a sales or viewing session. Sessions take place in my warm and cosy studio in Crawley Down and cost £95.
