Like all other fashions, the trends in newborn photography  move over time.  Natural newborn photography is currently experiencing a surge in popularity.

That’s not to say that no-one is asking for props and accessories any more but I think one of the most popular phrases that I’m seeing on the newborn options forms is ‘natural photos’. It’s a trend that I’ve been watching with interest over the last couple of years in America (they get everything first!) and I think it marks a move away from the complex prop based set ups that were all the rage a few years ago.  People are happier to simply capture their newborn at their beautiful best with no distractions.

In the case of this family, they wanted a super simple session with their baby remaining dressed at all times and mixing shots of them on their own against a plain white background and family photos to capture them together.

I’m not one of those photographers who establishes a style and tries to fit their customers into it.  As far as I’m concerned, they are your photos and – just like Subway – you should have it your way!  So I’m more than happy to work to create a gallery that reflects your style.  If you want to keep it simple, we will.  If you love all the accessories, then I’ll be more than happy to get them out.  It’s also not a case that you have to pick a lane and stay in it – if you generally want to keep it simple but fall in love with one of the props and want to include it, we can do that. Mix and match – whatever works for you, works for me.
