Mother’s Day is always a good time in the studio. Over the years I’ve had mums booking sessions as a treat for themselves – a chance to finally be in the photos rather than always behind the camera – and kids coming in for a secret shoot to surprise mum on the day. Both are equally good.
Looking back at sessions from previous years, the thing that strikes me most is how relaxed they tend to be. Whether it’s a quiet moment between a mum and one child or a full family pile-on, these sessions don’t need to be complicated to work well. Everyone feels comfortable, nobody’s trying too hard, and the results tend to reflect that.
It’s also a nice way to include nans, which doesn’t happen often enough in family photography in general.
