A newborn photo shoot can be a wonderful gift to give to expectant parents, with all the promise of capturing those precious early days.

One thing you should know about giving these type of gift certificates is that the window for newborn photography is very short – photos need to be taken within the baby’s first two weeks with their new family.  For this reason, I don’t recommend waiting until the baby arrives to either give the certificate or for the parents who receive it to wait until they are back from hospital to book it in as I can’t always accommodate last minute bookings.  Plus it’s pretty easy for them to forget about it until they’ve looked up from the newborn bubble and then they’ve missed the chance. Of course all of my gift vouchers are valid for one year so they’re welcome to visit the studio any time during the year but if they had their heart set on sleepy shots, we need to get them in as soon as possible.

Instead, if you give a newborn photo gift certificate, get the parents to book it in as soon as they receive it. Obviously we don’t normally know when the baby will arrive but we book for their due date plus seven and days and adjust it as needed to guarantee their slot in the calendar.
