There’s something magical about silhouettes – the way light outlines you and yours, soft shadows creating mood, and tiny details (a hand, a cheek, a little tilt of the head) that say everything without saying anything.
One of my favourite sessions in the Baby Photography Club this year featured a silhouette family portrait: traditional shots on one side, but the semi-silhouette image stole the show. It’s super cute for wall art, and captures real connection without the fuss.
Silhouette portraits are trickier than they look – not because the camera work is hard, but because toddlers & babies have minds of their own when it comes to looking in the “right” direction! I always work to balance creativity with comfort: soft background lighting, gentle posing, letting the kids settle into stillness, and catching those moments where the silhouette feels natural and timeless.
