One of the best things about offering dog photography at the studio is the sheer variety of breeds I get to meet.
This handsome fellow was my first ever Rhodesian Ridgeback, and he did not disappoint. They’re hunting dogs, commonly believed to have been bred to hunt lions, though in reality they were more likely bred to track them. He’s a big lad, but I wouldn’t have fancied his chances against a lion either way.
They get their name from the distinctive stripe of backwards-growing hair along their spine, and they’re known for being a mix of affectionate and strong-willed. This one was both. He ended up in my lap on more than one occasion and had very firm opinions about where he was prepared to sit.
Dog sessions are always a little unpredictable. You can’t expect a dog in a new environment to follow instructions straight away, but a bit of time and patience and we always get there.
