Of course I love working with newborns but I also love working with dogs and so this little set up was pretty much my ideal scenario.
Added to this that I got the chance to make the acquaintance of the biggest dog I’ve ever seen, and I was practically giddy. Actually the big guy was way more calm that his smaller furry sibling and made posing the three of them together a pretty simple affair.
I’ve heard clients tell me that they’ve been told by some photographers that they don’t accept dogs at a newborn photo shoot. One of them was even told that it wouldn’t be safe to do it. To be honest, I think that’s a load of old rubbish!
I think it’s much more likely that the photographer just thought that it might be difficult to do it and dodged out of it. I’d also like to say that it definitely can be difficult to do it – you’re adding in another creature who has no interest in what you’re trying to achieve along with a newborn that shares that view and so I’d be lying if I said that it is never challenging. But what is life if you don’t step up to a challenge? Anyway, by following that mantra, it’s not safe to have a two year old in a photo shoot either – they share the same disregard for what you want them to do 🙂
So your fur babies are always going to be welcome to join in a photo shoot at my studio!
Newborn Photography
A newborn photo shoot is best when your baby is between 5 and 10 days old as this is when they are at their maximum sleepiness and poseability to capture those dreamy shots. For this reason, I definitely recommend that you book when you are pregnant as this is one less thing to worry about scheduling when you’ve just got home from the hospital. We make an appointment for your due date plus 7 days and then adjust it as needed.
My newborn shoots include your three favourite digital images which you select from your online gallery a few weeks after your photo shoot – I don’t make you attend a sales or viewing session. Sessions take place in my warm and cosy studio in Crawley Down and cost £95.
