This is one of my favourite shots to get with dads during a newborn session, and it’s simpler than it looks.

a newborn and dad nose to nose in portrait photo shoot

We start with the baby resting in their arms, nothing posed, just holding. Then, gradually, they lift their arms and lower their head until they’re nose to nose. By the time they get there, the smile is completely natural. They’re not performing for the camera, they’re just there with their baby.

It works every time. And it works in black and white against a dark backdrop because there’s nothing to distract from what’s actually happening in the frame.

Dads don’t always come to a session expecting to be in front of the camera. But these are usually the images they end up loving most. If you’ve got a session coming up, get him in the shot.

Newborn Photography in East Grinstead

The best time for your baby’s newborn session is between five and ten days old, when they’re at their sleepiest and curliest and those calm, natural images come easiest. I’d recommend booking while you’re still pregnant, so we can pencil in a provisional date and adjust once your baby arrives.

Your session takes place in my warm, cosy studio in Crawley Down, designed with your baby’s comfort in mind. Sessions are relaxed and unrushed, and include three digital images of your choice for £95. There’s no sales session, just a private online gallery where you can view and choose your favourites in your own time.
