Some things just come together. A blue backdrop, white fluffy clouds, and a tropical print shirt on a one-year-old who looks like he’s about to head off on holiday. His older brother has equally good taste in shirts, for the record. It runs in the family.
This was his first birthday session, and it’s a good example of how much the outfit can do for a photo. The blue print against the blue backdrop worked without being too matchy, and he carried the whole thing off with the kind of confidence that only a one-year-old who’s just figured out how to pull himself up to standing can manage.
First birthday sessions are one of my favourites to do. The difference between a newborn and a one-year-old is enormous, they’re upright, they’re interactive, they’ve got personality coming out of every pore, and they’re old enough to respond to what’s going on around them without being old enough to overthink any of it.
If your little one’s first birthday is coming up, it’s worth booking sooner rather than later. The window between pulling-up-to-stand and running-away-from-the-camera is shorter than you’d think.
