I’ve photographed quite a few sets of twins over the years and I’ll be honest, it can be a challenge. You’re essentially running two newborn sessions at once, and newborns have their own agenda at the best of times.

These two boys were around two weeks old, which is actually a little older than a singleton newborn would typically be at their session. Twins usually arrive early, so the window shifts slightly, two weeks for a twin is roughly equivalent to a few days for a full-term baby, and they’re often still beautifully sleepy and curled up at that stage.

These two had clearly decided to keep things interesting. They took it in turns to be unsettled throughout, which meant a lot of patience, a lot of resettling, and working around each other’s timing. We got there, as we always do. And then, right at the end, the stars aligned. Both asleep at the same time, tucked in together, one little arm draped over the other.

That’s the shot.

If you’re expecting twins and wondering whether a newborn session is worth attempting, it absolutely is. It just takes a bit longer and requires someone who’s done it before.

Newborn Photography in East Grinstead

The best time for your baby’s newborn session is between five and ten days old, when they’re at their sleepiest and curliest and those calm, natural images come easiest. I’d recommend booking while you’re still pregnant, so we can pencil in a provisional date and adjust once your baby arrives.

Your session takes place in my warm, cosy studio in Crawley Down, designed with your baby’s comfort in mind. Sessions are relaxed and unrushed, and include three digital images of your choice for £95. There’s no sales session, just a private online gallery where you can view and choose your favourites in your own time.
