This family first came to the studio when their son was born. His older sister held him on the sofa, just like this. Now they’re back, with a new baby, and both of them are there doing it again – older, bigger, and entirely confident about the whole thing.
Sibling shots with a newborn work best when the older children are genuinely comfortable holding a baby. With very young siblings there’s a lot of careful positioning and close supervision involved. With these two, it was straightforward. They knew what they were doing and the baby slept right through it.
It’s one of those sessions that’s nice to be part of. The same sofa, the same idea, a completely different family configuration. Mum came along with all three and we worked through the sibling shots first while the baby was settled, then the rest of the session from there.
If you’re coming in with older children as well as a newborn, it’s always worth making time for sibling portraits. They grow up fast on both ends of that age gap.
