Niblet the Pumpkin Keeper

When I open the Pumpkin Forest for Halloween photo shoots on October 17th, you won’t be the only visitors.  I have staff members who shall also be in attendance – including this diligent little squirrel.

Meet Niblet – the Pumpkin Keeper

Deep in the Pumpkin Forest lives a little squirrel named Niblet, with fur as soft as moss and eyes that sparkle brighter than lantern light. Unlike most squirrels, Niblet doesn’t just collect acorns – he gathers tiny seeds and whispers to them until they grow into the plumpest pumpkins in the forest.

Niblet takes his job very seriously. He pats the earth around each stem, brushes leaves clear of creeping shadows, and makes sure no pumpkin feels left out. When the autumn winds blow cold, you might even see him tucking the smaller ones in beneath blankets of fallen leaves.

The witches say the Pumpkin Forest wouldn’t glow half as brightly without him, and travellers often leave him little gifts of nuts or berries in thanks. But Niblet doesn’t do it for reward. He simply loves pumpkins – their colours, their shapes, and the way they light up the forest when the season turns to magic.

So if you visit the Pumpkin Forest this October and catch sight of a bushy tail darting between the gourds, know that Niblet is watching – making sure every pumpkin is ready for its moment to shine.
