Extra Magic at my West Sussex Halloween Photo Shoot Event

It’s the little touches that make these sessions feel more like stepping into a story than simply having your photo taken. This is where I share some of the behind-the-scenes magic that helps create those natural smiles and unforgettable moments.

Hand Crafted Props

Every set is dressed with little extras to make it feel alive. From pumpkin baskets and potion bottles to spell books and witchy tea cups, there are always props for children (and grown-ups!) to hold, explore, or play with. They’re simple but effective — just enough to spark imagination without overwhelming the photos.  Plus where possible, I make everything myself so you can be sure that there will be no other photo shoot quite like this one in the whole world!

Interactive Moments

These aren’t stiff, stand-and-smile sessions. I’ll gently guide your child to “stir the cauldron,” “pour a spooky drink,” or “peek into the pumpkin forest.” These little prompts help them relax, keep things playful, and make sure I capture those natural, genuine expressions you’ll love.

Storybook Touches

Somewhere between the sets you’ll meet characters like Barnabas the skeleton bird or Rex (dead but still a very good boy). These whimsical additions aren’t just decorations – they’re part of the story, adding depth and atmosphere while giving children something fun to react to.

Special Surprises

Not everything is listed on the website — because part of the magic is discovering something new on the day. Maybe it’s a hidden detail, maybe it’s a playful moment… but there’s always a sprinkle of mystery waiting to be found.

Meet the Cast

No experience is complete without a cast of supporting actors and I have some of the best trained around!

Rex the Skeleton Dog - A cast member at the Witches' Cafe Halloween Photo Shoots

Meet Rex, the Ever Hungry Hound

Rex once wandered into the Witches’ Café lured by the irresistible smell of pumpkin stew. He never left – mostly because he found out that skeletal dogs never get full. Now he guards the bubbling cauldrons, making sure no scraps go to waste. The witches don’t mind; they say his hollow belly makes him the best soup taster around.

a skeleton bird in a cage - Barnabas the apothecary's informant.

Meet Barnabas, the Apothecary’s Informant

Barnabas was once a sharp-eyed raven, trained by the witches to spy on rival potion makers and report back with secrets. Unfortunately, he listened to one too many poisonous whispers and turned skeletal. Now, he sits in his mossy cage at the Witches’ Café, cackling out half-truths to anyone who’ll buy him a thimble of pumpkin brew.

The Duke and Duchess of Gnawbridge - Witches' Cafe Halloween Photo Shoots

Meet the Duke & Duchess of Gnawbridge

Once palace rats with a taste for only the finest crumbs, the Duke and Duchess now hold court at the Witches’ Café. Though long turned to bone, they keep their standards high — pressed waistcoats, lace trim, and the Duchess’s handbag never out of reach. They may be banished from the palace, but here they judge every brew and bake with aristocratic flair.

Niblet the Pumpkin Keeper

Meet Niblet the Pumpkin Keeper

Niblet is a gentle little squirrel who tends the Pumpkin Forest. He gathers seeds, pats the earth, and tucks in the smaller gourds beneath fallen leaves. Thanks to him, the forest glows with autumn magic.

Find Answers to Some Frequently Asked Questions about the Halloween Event

If you’ve got questions, the section below might give you the answers that you need. If not, then just get in touch and I’m always happy to help.

Can I visit the Witches’ Cafe and Pumpkin Forest?2025-08-22T13:58:06+00:00

Absolutely!  If you like the idea of getting some cosy autumn photos with plenty of pumpkins, forest vibes and friendly creatures to meet, but also getting a bit more spooky in the Witches’ Cafe, then you can book to visit both sets while you’re at the studio.  A visit to a single set costs £35 and it is £50 to visit both (those prices both include your edited images at print quality).  If you’re visiting both sets, you’ll get an extended session time so you have time for an outfit change in between.

My child gets scared really easily – are these sessions OK for them?2025-08-22T13:55:09+00:00

At the end of the day, you know your child best and I’d definitely recommend taking a good look at all of the images before booking to see if it would be something that they would find fun. All the props are designed to be on the cute side of spooky (unless you ask for the scarier set) but there is a definitely spooky side with spider sandwiches and skull cupcakes.  The good news is that you can still capture all those autumn memories by taking a trip to the Pumpkin Forest instead – guaranteed scare free with lots of pumpkins and friendly woodland creatures.

I have older children who like a scare – do you have props for them?2025-08-22T13:30:15+00:00

A lot of my clients have been coming along to my Halloween photo shoots for a lot of years now and they’re getting to an age where they don’t want spooky and cute so much any more.  So when I designed the Witches’ Cafe, I made a second set of props to change the narrative a little bit from the cupcakes to a bit of a darker Sweeney Todd vibe.  There’s only one rule.  Never ask what is in the pies.

Will I need to attend a viewing session?2025-08-18T15:15:54+00:00

Whether you’ll need to attend a viewing session to see your photos after a Halloween photo shoot is a very common question I get asked.  I totally understand it as this is what most photographers do and at the viewing session, there are quite often a range of sales tactics used to encourage you to spend more money.  Whilst I fully support you spending more money, it would be impossible to do with my mini sessions as your session fee already includes all your images at print quality!   So there’s no viewing session for you to attend with this (or any of my other photography sessions as it goes) – you’ll simply receive a link to your private online gallery a few days after your session.  Your images will be waiting for you there to download, print and and enjoy.

What’s included in the session fee?2025-08-18T15:10:55+00:00

When you book for a Halloween photo shoot at my studio, you’ll have the choice to either visit the Pumpkin Forest or the Witches’ Cafe for £35 which includes your time in the set, use of all the props and as much magic and spook as I can dream up for you.  It also includes all of your edited image gallery to download at print quality.  If you’d like to visit both sets while you’re with me, you can do that for £50 – you’ll get an extended session time to allow for an outfit change between the two and all of your images are still included.

What are the Halloween mini photo shoots2025-08-18T15:06:49+00:00

My Halloween mini photo shoot event is happening from October 17-19 2025 and there will be two worlds you can visit to get into the Halloween and Autumn spirit.  There will be the Witches’ Café is and the Pumpkin Forest.  Sessions includes all of your edited digital images and cost £35 for one set or £50 to visit both worlds while you’re in the studio.

When will we receive our Halloween photos?2025-08-18T15:06:42+00:00

After you’ve been to visit for yourHalloween photos, you’ll receive a beautifully edited private online gallery within 3 business days. With these mini photo shoots, all your images are included so you will be able to download them direct to your device and print or share them as you’d like to.

What’s the booking process?2025-08-18T15:06:07+00:00

As with all of my photo shoots, you can book your session online by either clicking the button on the screen or following the links on the website.  Just enter your details to reserve your session and it will be confirmed when you send over your payment (there will be a link to do this in the confirmation email).  The calendar opens 1st September—dates sell fast!

How long does a session take?2025-08-18T15:06:18+00:00

A visit to the Halloween event is a mini session booked for half an hour but generally you’ll be taking photos for about ten to fifteen minutes. If you’re visiting both the Pumpkin Forest and the Witches’ Cafe, you’ll get a longer session so you’ll have time for an outfit change in between!

What if my child is shy or doesn’t smile?2025-08-18T15:05:56+00:00

That’s OK! I work at a relaxed pace, and we can capture plenty of sweet moments, smiles or not.  There are plenty of fun things to look at and even a friendly fox to keep them happy and distracted.

Can I Bring my Dog?2025-08-18T15:05:52+00:00

Absolutely! Well-behaved dogs are welcome and look adorable in the Pumpkin Forest or in the Witches Cafe — just let me know beforehand. Costumes not obligatory but always welcome!

How many people can join in a Halloween photo shoot?2025-08-18T15:05:49+00:00

These sessions are suitable for up to two children from an age at which they can sit up by themselves.  Fur babies are also always welcome!  Costumes are optional of course but always encouraged!

Can I use my phone/camera in the studio ?2025-09-27T14:39:26+00:00

I kindly ask that you don’t take photos or videos during your session. Your booking includes my time, skill and copyright, and recording in the studio can interrupt the flow of your shoot. If anyone is seen filming or photographing, the session will need to be stopped and will end without refund – and that’s not a situation any of us want to be in. Please relax, enjoy the experience, and let me take care of creating the images for you.
