They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and I think this little trilogy tells the story in considerably fewer than that.

It’s a tale as old as time. A one-year-old slowly realises that his big brother has been helping himself to the birthday cake. The audacity. The betrayal. The very righteous indignation on that little face in the third frame.
I’d generally suggest keeping siblings out of the cake smash itself for most of it, partly because it doesn’t photograph as well with two children in the set, and partly, as you can see here, because it can lead to diplomatic incidents. That said, older brothers and sisters are always welcome to jump in for a few shots and a mouthful of cake at the start. Whether the birthday boy gives his blessing is another matter entirely.
